Diana Abugattas was born January 20, 1960, in Lima. From a very early age she enjoyed a life surrounded by textiles. She learned to crawl at her parents' clothing workshop, surrounded by fabrics of all sorts! "It was there that my appreciation for textile designs began," she recalls.
"When I was a teenager, I was fascinated by the idea of studying hotel administration,” the artist explains, “and I eventually did study it. I worked in that field for six years, until I got married and had my first baby. I no longer had time for hotel work, so I took up handcrafts and design. I'd always had many ideas in my head, but had never developed those ideas.
"At first I worked in ceramics. Then, together with my sister, I had the opportunity to design backpacks for children, and we still enjoy doing this today. But I'm never completely at peace! I'm always looking for new designs and better techniques.
"My art is my life. Every single morning when I first wake up, I think, 'What am I going to create today?' My goal is always to find just the right fabric, and create something new with it for today's modern woman.
"My designs each come from my own Peruvian hands - and all are lovingly made for you to enjoy!"
